Mark Hall is a graduate of the universities of Sheffield and Leicester who sees his interest in material culture as having led naturally to a career in museums. This has led to stints with Dundee, Wakefield, Stoke-on-Trent and Perth, where he curated the archaeology collection. The latter has a fine collection of early medieval Pictish sculpture.
He has published widely on medieval material culture. But his particular interests include Pictish/early medieval sculpture, the cult of saints, the material culture of gaming and archaeology in popular cinema.
