OTHER HIGHLAND HERITAGE SITES

Apart from museums and galleries there are many heritage sites to visit on the Black Isle and further afield.  Far too many to all be listed here !  But the following are all well worth a visit :-

Kirkmichael, Balblair - a part medieval church which is being restored as a heritage centre, the kirkyard is also full of interest including two important mausolea, also to be restored (pictured above)...

Nigg Old Church - is a fine example of a Scottish parish church and - since it houses a magnificent Pictish monument of the late eighth century, carved with Pictish symbols and Christian imagery - it is likely that it stands on what has been a place of Christian worship for at least 1200 years.  It has, to this day, an atmosphere of peace and tranquillity...

Highland Archive Centre, Inverness - is responsible for collecting, preserving, and making accessible archives relating to the history of the Highlands.  The archive collections date from the 14th century to the present day.  Feel free to drop in – staff are always on hand to assist you with your research...
